27 Stitches tells the story of Daphne Chen, a 23-year-old recent college graduate who has struggled her whole life with meeting her parent’s high expectations and fitting in with her friends, family, and peers in the blue blood Upper East Side where she grew up. Facing a future of inadequacy, with no job prospects, no meaningful connections, and no self-confidence, Daphne decides that she wants a fresh start somewhere else where she can be someone else. Motivated by this renewed sense of purpose and her own “go big or go home” attitude, Daphne plots to fake her disappearance with an alien abduction hoax. She manages to escape, unexpectedly accompanied by her brother’s best friend (and her childhood crush) Ezra, but it turns out that no matter how far you go, or how much you reinvent yourself, problems don’t go away because you’re still you.
